Working with Links

Links are the heart of LinkAce. Links can be anything from interesting articles, cool portfolios, to helpful web tools. As long as it has a URL, you can add it to LinkAce.

Features

  • Categorize links using tags or group them with lists
  • Links are archived by the Wayback Machine
  • Regular checks ensure you know about availability changes
  • Automatic metadata extraction
  • Multiple display formats
  • Bulk editing capabilities

The link overview lists all available links with:

  • Meta information like tags
• Sharing options
  • Links for editing and deleting

You can sort by:

  • Creation date
  • Title
  • URL

Both ascending and descending order are supported.

Links can be displayed in three different formats, controlled directly from the overview page:

  1. Simple list: Compact view with essential information
  2. Detailed list: Extended view with descriptions and more metadata
  3. Cards: Visual card-based layout

Bulk Editing

Links can be bulk-edited:

  1. Select links by checking the box for each link
  2. Or click “Select all” at the top to select all displayed links
  3. Click “Edit” to start bulk editing

On the bulk edit form, you can:

  • Change assigned Tags
  • Modify Lists
  • Update visibility
  • Delete all selected Links

Values not changed will stay the same.

New links can be added in two ways:

  1. Quick Add: Directly from the dashboard using the Quick Add form
  2. Full Form: Via “Add Link” in the menu bar (more powerful)
FieldRequiredDescription
URLYesThe URL of the link you want to add
TitleNoCustom title. If blank, LinkAce parses the title from the website. If none found, URL is used
DescriptionNoCustom description. If blank, LinkAce tries to parse from the website
ListNoAdd link to lists. Type to search existing lists or create new ones. Cannot contain commas
TagsNoAdd tags for the link. Type to search existing tags or create new ones. Cannot contain commas
VisibilityNoSet the privacy mode (Public, Internal, or Private)

Continue Adding Feature

Check the “Continue Adding” box to add multiple links in a row. When checked, you’ll see the link form again instead of being redirected to the link detail page.

Tag Suggestions

After adding a URL, LinkAce gathers details from the site. If valid meta information is found, LinkAce suggests tags to be added. Click on a suggestion to add it as a new tag.

The link detail page shows:

  • Title and description
  • Lists and tags
  • Thumbnail (if available)
  • Edit and delete options
  • Share links (if enabled in user settings)
  • Link notes
  • Change history

Enable/Disable Automated Checks

The “Enable Check” / “Disable Check” button lets you control automated checks for the link. This is helpful if:

  • A website is reachable but LinkAce has problems accessing it
  • The site uses visitor captcha checks (common with Cloudflare-hosted websites)

Each link can have several notes for:

  • Detailed information about the link
  • Hints for guest viewers

Notes can be:

  • Private: Only readable by you
  • Non-private: Visible to others based on link visibility

To manage notes:

  1. Go to the link detail page
  2. Find the notes section below regular link details
  3. Add, view, or edit notes

Change History

The change history at the bottom shows:

  • Recent changes with timestamps
  • Previous values

Changes are recorded for:

  • All link values
  • Assigned lists and tags

Automatic Backups with Wayback Machine

After adding a link, LinkAce schedules an automatic “backup” with the Wayback Machine (archive.org) .

How It Works

  1. LinkAce notifies the Wayback Machine about your saved link
  2. Archiving is scheduled
  3. First backup may take a while to complete

Note: Some websites restrict Wayback Machine access. If restricted, the website won’t be archived. Contact the site owner to enable Wayback Machine access.

Requirement: The cron must be configured and working.

With the cron set up correctly, LinkAce regularly checks all links for availability.

You’ll be notified about:

  • Dead links
  • Moved links

More details on the Link Checks page.

Lists and Tags have an option to open all links in new browser tabs.

Requirement: Configure your browser to allow popups for LinkAce. Consult your browser’s documentation for instructions.
